  • [01] Greece to return to growth in second half of 2017, says central banker

The current year will end with a recession of around 0.3 percent of GDP, while growth will return in the second half of 2017, Bank of Greece Governor Yiannis Stournaras said on Monday, speaking at the parliament's Economic Affairs Committee during a debate on the bank's annual report on monetary policy.

Stournaras said the estimated two-percent growth in the second half of 2017 will be enough to offset the negative effects of the two first quarters of recession. He also forecast that private consumption will rebound in 2017 and 2018, "despite the increase in taxation because employment will also rise".

[02] Twin Kouroi of Tenea to be hosted in restored hall of Ancient Corinth Museum

Two very important finds, the twin marble Kouroi of Tenea (statues of young males of the Archaic Period) that were found a few years ago in Klenia of Corinth will be displayed, for the first time, in one of the restored halls of the Archaeological Museum of Ancient Corinth that will be inaugurated by Culture Minister Aristidis Baltas on Wednesday 13 July at 19.30.

The Kouroi were found during an illegal digging in the area of Klenia. Later, the authorities conducted an excavation in the area and found the missing parts of the Kouroi and their sarcophagus.

Police arrested antiquities smugglers in May 2010 and the statues were sent to the National Archaeological Museum in Athens for restoration.
