[01] PM Tsipras asks Tsakalotos to 'strongly suport' Spain, Portugal,
Italy at Eurogroup
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras told Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos to
"strongly support" Spain, Portugal and Italy during the ongoing Eurogroup
meeting in Brussels on Monday, according to exclusive information of
the Athens-Macedonian news agency.
Eurozone finance ministers are discussing fiscal issues relating to
Spain and Portugal, the issue of Italy's banks and the general economic
condition of the bloc's member-states.
[02] Government open to any proposal on electoral law bill
The government is open to any proposal on how to change the electoral
law, even lowering the threshold for entry to parliament below
three percent, however it is unmovable on the issue of switching to
proportional representation, government sources told ANA on Monday.
According to the sources, the government submitted the proposal for a
three percent threshold after talks with party leaders such as those of
PASOK and Potami, but since these parties do not want to support the bill,
the government is open to any discussions. "We'll see how talks develop
from now on," a source said, adding that the debate is continuing in
the relevant parliamentary committee.
Following a meeting earlier between the prime minister and independent
MP Nikos Nikolopoulos, the latter stated that he had proposed lowering
the current threshold to one percent - which should be achieved in
several of Greece's seven administrative regions - and added that "the
prime minister didn't reject our proposal and said he will examine it
seriously." He then said he will support the bill.
