  • [01] German FinMin Schaeuble feels more optimistic over Greek economic recovery

Greece is recovering faster than expected, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said on Monday and expressed his optimism over the country's prospects.

Schaeuble, who was speaking at a conference on the sustainability of Germany's fiscal condition, said that now he is more optimistic over Greece's economic growth.

He stated that the crises may bring anti-popular fiscal decisions but underlined that this is the right way for budget stability.

[02] President Pavlopoulos discusses refugee issue with EU Commissioner Avramopoulos

The EU cohesion depends on the progress of the management of the refugees problem, underlined President of Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos during his meeting on Monday with European Commissioner for Migration Dimitris Avramopoulos.

Pavlopoulos thanked the European Commission and Avramopoulos in particular for their efforts towards the implementation of the EU-Turkey agreement and warned not to relax because, as he noted, the problem is ahead of us and whatever relaxation would give the opportunity to Turkey not to follow the conditions of the agreement something that would create huge problems in the summer season.

On his part, Avramopoulos stressed that we are before a crucial crossroads not only in matters related to the migration but also to security issues. "The threats on the horizon refer to our wider region where geopolitically Greece is called to play a role of stability."

Referring to the EU-Turkey agreement, he underlined the need for its implementation because we will be the first that we will suffer from the concequences in case it is not applied.

He said that approximately 3 million refugees are currently at the Turkish coasts and another 500,000 at the African coasts waiting from the traffickers to take them to Europe.
