[01] State Minister Pappas optimistic an agreement can be reached on May 24State Minister Nikos Pappas in statements to public broadcaster ERT expressed his content over the outcome of the meetings with the US government leadership in Washington. "The meetings with the leadership of the US government proved that all sides are aware that the agreement on table is being implemented, an agreement that has started to bear fruit and there should be no delays," he underlined.The State Minister said that the government wants to implement the agreement that will have specific terms and that will make it viable. "I think that the July agreement can and should be met without delay," he said and expressed optimism that we can have an agreement on May 24. [02] Alternate Admin. Reform Min reassures there will be no salary cuts"As long as this government remains in power and I myself remain in my position, there will be no salary cuts, Alternate Administrative Reform Minister Christophoros Vernadakis reassured in an interview with ANA-MPA on Sunday."There can be no more reductions in salaries," Vernadakis underlined referring the activation of the fiscal adjustment mechanism. "On the contrary, salaries should be increased," he added. The minister explained that every euro lost from the salary of a public sector employees, it is also lost from consumption. As he stated, if need be to activate the mechanism in the future, there will be savings in other resources. Referring to the possibility of elections, he said that the government needs and wants political time to implement parallel policies for the benefit of society affected by the crisis. [03] Labour Min Katrougalos rules out mass layoffsLabour Minister George Katrougalos reassured on Sunday in an interview with SKAI TV that there would be no mass layoffs."The IMF is asking for mass layoffs," Katrougalos noted. "Obviously we are not going to accept that," he cleared out. "We have shown that we respect our red lines," Katrougalos underlined referring to pensions. The Labour Minister also stressed that a reduction in salaries is not on the negotiating table right now. [04] Greece's foreign policy is prudent, decisive and preventive, FM Kotzias saysGreece is implementing a foreign policy with respect to its red lines, Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias on Sunday said in an interview with Kathimerini newspaper.The Greek foreign policy is prudent, decisive and preventive, he stressed adding that it creates alliances and partners. "It is a policy that makes use of all the diplomatic means," he explained. Kotzias underlined that Greece's determination to protect its sovereign rights and territorial integrity should not be underestimated and explained that a strong power struggle is being conducted in Turkey adding that "Greece needs to be careful so as not to be part of this problem." Regarding the relations between Greece and Russia and the imminent visit of the Russian President Vladimir Putin, he argued that "despite the multiple problems in the relations between Russia and the West, we will have to find ways of communication. The EU needs to decide upon what policy it will follow: a policy against Russia or with Russia?" Finally, he said that all the old members of the EU, including Greece, choose to converse with Russia unlike some of the new members.
