[01] Tribute to prominent Turkish photographer Ara Güler at Benaki MuseumBenaki Museum in Athens will present on May 12 the award-winning Turkish documentary «The Eye of Istanbul» by directors Binnur Karaevli (also writer) and Fatih Kaymak, which tells the story of renowned Turkish-Armenian photographer Ara Güler, during the preparation of a retrospective exhibition in Istanbul.The event is organized by the Turkish embassy in Athens and is part of an event to mark the work and personality of the photographer. "In his 87 years, Ara Güler remains a complex and unforgettable personality: perceptive, witty and philosophical. Although he became known from his surveys of human life and important historical events since the Second World War in Istanbul, Turkey, he has made an international career for more than sixty years and has created more than one million photos," the museum says. "However, his archive has never been opened to researchers, but remains piled up in boxes in his office," it added. During the documentary, the photographer remembers the stories behind some of his most emblematic photos, bringing them to life. Güler likens himself to a historian who has "immortalized" human life and the most important events for more than half a century. The directors borrowed the title of the film from the artist's nickname, as he has become known as "the Eye of Istanbul". The movie will be accompanied by an exhibition of 40 photographs through which the artist captures everyday snapshots, starring ordinary people and Istanbul as the eternal background. [02] Cyber-attack on Bank of Greece dealt with "promptly", BoG source saysA cyber-attack on the systems of Greece's central bank was dealt with "promptly", a source within the Bank of Greece said on Wednesday.The source said there was an attempt to hack into the central bank's system on Tuesday by Anonymous and this was quickly neutralised by the bank's electronic security services, preventing any "side-effects" from the hacking attempt. The attack on the bank's website lasted a few minutes before normal operation was restored, the source added. The BoG website continues to present problems on Wednesday, however, which are being investigated by the appropriate services. [03] Journalists to join strike action against pension reform bill, POESY decidesJournalists will join forces with the General Confederation of Employees of Greece (GSEE) and the civil servants' union federation ADEDY for coordinated strike action against the pensions reform bill to be passed in Parliament, the national federation of journalists' unions POESY decided in a meeting on Wednesday.The time and manner of the strike action will be further specified when the date for debating the bill before the Parliament plenum is announced. POESY said journalists are striking in protest against the decision to abolish the 'advertising stamp duty' that funded their pension and health funds and the forced merger of the ETAP-MME pension fund for media personnel, as announced on April 27.
