[01] 12 arrests in forged document ring operating on LesvosTwelve people were arrested on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos by police as suspected members of a criminal gang that supplied forged travel documents to third country nationals landing on several Greek islands from Turkey amid the ongoing refugees and migrant crisis in the area. The suspects are also charged with trafficking the foreign nationals to the Greek mainland.The suspects include a 28-year-old Pakistani man, believed by police to be the ringleader, as well as three local men – two bookstore owners and their assistant - as well as another eight Pakistanis. The Lesvos residents are accused of forging the documents, which they later sold for 150-200 euros per document to the foreign nationals who landed on the island as war refugees or irregular migrants. They face individual charges, including the establishment and participation in a criminal ring, forgery, drug possession and violation of immigration laws. Authorities raided two apartments in the island capital of Mytilene, in which they allegedly found evidence of the forging operation. Police believe the suspects transported hundreds of Third World natoinals to the mainland on a daily basis. [02] Athens seeks clarifications from Paris over claim terrorist Abaaoud was in GreeceThe Greek government on Friday said it will ask for clarifications from French authorities regarding reports that Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the suspected mastermind of the Nov. 13 terror attacks in Paris, had passed through Greece.In an announcement on Friday, the citizen protection ministry said it had "regretfully been informed by open sources" that French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve stated, in a press release, that a non-European intelligence service had supplied information that Abaaoud, a Belgian-Moroccan resident of the Brussels district of Molenbeek, had passed through Greece. "This information was at no time confirmed and until today no source has given us any evidence that confirms the above claim, which is based solely on reports by open sources dating from January 2015 that are being constantly reproduced," a ministry's announcement stated.
