  • [01] Stability and cooperation are ND's priorities, says Meimarakis

ANA/MPA---New Democracy (ND) leader Evangelos Meimarakis in an interview with Star Channel late on Monday said that SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras has a close relationship with Merkel and Hollande and does not make a single step if he does not consult them first.

Meimarakis also said that Greece's future is in Europe and "Tsipras understood it late because Finance minister Yanis Varoufakis misled him."

He underlined that he would not promise anything as the country is in a very difficult situation and the next two years will also be difficult.

He stressed that among his priorities, if he wins the elections, will be stability, cooperation among European forces, the setting up of a national negotiation group, the implementation of privatisations and the restart of huge works.

Regarding the debt, he said there is reference for a restructuring and not a haircut.

As for the 23 percent VAT on private education, he opined that "SYRIZA shows hatred to anything private" . On the farmers' issue, Meimarakis disagreed with the taxation measures and explained that creditors can change their minds if we have the right arguments.
