[01] Greek economy remains in deflation in March
ANA/MPA---The Greek economy remained in deflation for 25th consecutive
month, with the inflation rate at -2.1 pct in March, from -2.2 pct in
February and -1.3 pct in March 2014, Hellenic Statistical Authority
said on Thursday.
The statistics service, in a report, attributed this development to
monthly price increases (from February to March 2015) in cheese (0.7
percent), fresh vegetables (2.1 pct), fresh fruit (4.7 pct), meat (0.3
pct), potatoes (4.2 pct), heating oil (3.0 pct), PPC tariffs (0.7 pct),
diesel (4.1 pct) and passengers' transport by plane (11.9 pct) and to
price declines in fresh fish (3.2 pct) and transport insurance (3.1 pct).
The annual change in inflation (March 2015 compared with March 2014) was
attributed to a 12.6 pct rise in lamb prices, a 20.3 pct rise in fresh
vegetables, a 11.9 percent in oil prices, a 8.8 percent rise in nuts,
a 2.4 percent rise in tobacco, a 5.6 percent rise in PPC tariffs and a
10.6 percent rise in passengers' transport. On the other hand, prices
in the same period fell by 24.5 pct in heating oil, 3.3 pct in natural
gas, 6.1 pct in fresh fruit, 13.9 pct in potatoes, 18.1 pct in sugar,
3.6 pct in clothing and 9.8 pct in petrol.
The country's harmonized inflation rate was -1.9 pct in March, from -1.5
pct in March 2014.
