Diplomatic sources in Brussels, after the meeting of the Euro Working
Group on Wednesday, expressed optimism over the outcome of the
negotiations between Greece and the institutions.
The Euro Working Group made a first assessment of the progress made
towards the implementation of the ideas and proposals submitted by Greece
to the Eurogoup.
In general, it was estimated that Greece has made a satisfactory progress
although Eurogroup officials noted that many things still need to be
agreed. The final agreement will apparently be sought at the informal
meeting of eurozone finance ministers to be held in two weeks in Riga,
Latvia.
In the meantime, negotiations between Greece's technical staff and the
representatives of the institutions will continue, mainly in Brussels
but also in Athens.
