[03] Government's position on single and state PPC is non negotiable, Energy Minister saysANA/MPA---The government's position on a single and state Public Power Corp. (PPC) is non negotiable, Productive Reconstruction, Environment and Energy Minister Panagiotis Lafazanis said during his visit at the PPC power plant in Kardia, at the northern Greek region of Kozani.A private PPC would be a disaster for the economy, he said. For this reason, he added, the current government has put aside the previous government's plans to break up the company and create the so-called small PPC . Lafazanis noted that the Independent Power Transmission Operator (ADMIE) will not be privatized but will remain public. Regarding the PPC tariffs, he said there are high – "energy in our country is very expensive" – and that the first bill to be tabled in Parliament will include an amendment abolishing the increases that the energy regulator RAE had recommended. He also noted that the government would soon take more initiatives to reduce PPC tariffs. The minister said that the country is in a crisis and that the government's intention is to create growth, employment and take the country out of the crisis. The government is trying to open positive ways for the people and to gradually restore the citizens' income to pre-memorandum levels. This is a titanic effort and we will carry it out despite any pressure, threats, blackmails and difficulties, the minister stressed. Energy is a main pillar of growth and PPC is the locomotive of energy; for this reason the government is determined to support the uniform and state-run PPC, he said. Apart from Kardia power plant, Lafazanis will also visit the electricity production unit in Ptolemaida as well as one of the mines in the area, while in the afternoon he will meet local organization representatives in Kozani. Lafazanis on Tuesday will attend the parade on the March 25th national holiday. Athens News Agency: News in English Directory - Previous Article - Next Article |
