[01] Third round of Presidential elections on Monday at noonANA/MPA---The third round for the election of President of Republic will be held on Monday noon at the Parliament. If the 180 votes needed for the election are not gathered, then the parliament will be dissolved and snap elections will be declared.A cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, will convene on Monday at 14:00 after the conclusion of the third round of the voting. [02] Car explosion on Attiki Odos; one deadANA/MPA---One person was killed on Monday morning on Attiki Odos motorway, Greek police said, when the car he was driving, reportedly laden with explosives, exploded.According to eye witnesses, the co-driver of the car was injured and taken to hospital. The Department of Explosive Devices Disposal is still investigating the causes of the explosion. [03] Seraphim Fyntanides, former Eleftherotypia managing editor, buried at First CemeteryANA-MPA - Veteran editor Seraphim Fyntanides, who left a mark in Greek post-junta press history, was buried at Athens' First Cemetery on Saturday.Fyntanides, 77, who died on Christmas Day from heart complications, was best known for his association with 1976-founded Eleftherotypia, which he helped turn to an influential and top-circulation newspaper in the 31 years he served as managing editor. He was born in Athens in 1937, and graduated from the Economics and Commerce University (ASOEE) in 1960. His career began at daily "Ethnos" (1957-1968), and passed through editorial posts at "Apogevmatini" (1968-1974, during the junta) and "Acropolis" (1974-1976). He joined "Eleftherotypia" in 1976 and remained at its editorial helm until 2007, resigning soon after the death of its founder Kitsos Tegopoulos in 2006. He then worked on television programmes and published two books, on travels he made and his memoirs as a journalist. Statements expressing condolences were issued by government spokeswoman Sofia Voultepsi on behalf of the prime minister, PASOK, the main opposition SYRIZA, Independent Greeks (ANEL), the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and EU Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos, among others. In a statement, the Athens Union of Journalists (ESIEA) called him "a historic figure in journalism," "one of the last of executive editors who wrote history in newspapers," and "a true ‘newspaperman,' as he liked to call himself." His funeral was attended by several politicians of all parties, colleagues and friends and funeral orations made reference to his ethos, decency, sense of fairness and editorial management.
