  • [01] Double moderate earthquake shakes Athens

ANA/MPA---Two earthquakes measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale were recorded at 1:05 and 1:09 on Tuesday, 80 kilometres north-northwest of Athens.

According to the Geodynamics Institute of the Athens Observatory and the Geophysics Lab of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the quake's epicentre was located 27 km northwest of the city of Halkida.

A series of aftershocks measuring just over 3 Richter followed.

The quakes were stongly felt in the wider area of Athens and in the regions of Viotia, Evia and Fthiotida.

Professor of Geology and President of Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization Efthimios Lekkas wrote to his Twitter that the epicenter of the quake was located south of north Evoikos Gulf at the rear of Atalanti rift. He also stated the double seismic activity derived from an underwater rift for which the scientists don't know its exact dimension and for this particular reason are closely monitoring the phenomenon.

Seismologists said that the post quake activity does not raise serious concern given that the specific phenomenon has been observed in the past and they consider positive the series of aftershocks, as it is a sign of defusion of the seismic activity.

No damages or injuries have been reported

[02] Train collision at Rouf station; no injuries

Two trains collided on Tuesday at 08:00 at Rouf suburban rail station without anyone injured.

According to TRAINOSE, the head on collision is attributed to human mistake. One of the trains was empty and stationed at Rouf and was bound to leave for Kalambaka while the second one with 20 passengers on board was carrying out the itinerary Halkida-Piraeus.

Piraeus-Halkida train link has been interrupted.

[03] Patient on board freighter confirmed negative for Ebola

ANA/MPA---The patient case reported on board Greek-owned freighter "Magda P" was confirmed negative for Ebola. The test results by the special laboratory of the University of Athens released after 2 am essentially confirmed the initial estimate that the incident was not considered a suspicious Ebola case.

The ship, which originated from Guinea, West Africa, and destined for Ukraine, came to Piraeus port late on Monday.

The patient informed the Hellenic Center for Disease Control & Prevention (KEELPNO) doctors that he showed fever on November 13. According to the captain and the shipping company, there was no contact between the crew and people in the Conakry port, who may have become ill due to the spread of Ebola in the region, as no one had disembarked the ship. Moreover, the few local dock workers who had boarded the freighter had been double-checked by the ship's insurance company doctor and the Guinea port authorities.

[04] Bad mortgage loans settlement to be tabled in parliament next year, Deputy Dev. Minister says

ANA/MPA---The government will not open the social security issue and will not take back the 100-installments for the overdue debts, Deputy Development Minister Odysseas Constantinopoulos told Parapolitika FM on Tuesday.

"Lenders are not always right. They have made mistakes on fiscal figures several times," he noted.

Moreover, he underlined that the regulation for bad mortgage loans will be tabled in parliament in the next year. "In a possible deadlock with the troika, elections are not a solution, but it is not up to me to decide," he added.
