  • [01] Starting troika negotiations with posturing is not a serious thing, gov't spokesperson says

ANA/MPA---The negotiations with the troika that will start on Tuesday in Paris have to do with structural reforms and measures that Greece has committed it would implement government spokesperson Sofia Voultepsi said in an interview with ANA-MPA on Tuesday.

Asked on "red lines", she said: "These reports about 'red lines' do not come from the government. By no means would the government go to a negotiation having set conditions. Starting a conversation with posturing is far from serious."

"Even in daily life, you cannot start a conversation, a negotiation, having set 'red lines' beforehand, simply because it hurts the debate and eventually the country itself," she added.

Commenting on the reports about changes in the Uniform Real Estate Ownership Tax (ENFIA), Voultepsi noted that the government is mulling options to alleviate taxation in several sectors of the economy.

Regarding the upcoming NATO summit in Wales, she underlined that "Greece is part of the Alliance, it is a NATO member and plays an important role in the Alliance. Is has an important geostrategic position in the Alliance and this has been proved several times over the last years."

ANA/MPA---Greece on Tuesday successfully auctioned a 26-week Treasury bill issue draining 1.137 billion euros from the market at a slightly lower cost.

The Public Debt Management Organization said the interest rate of the issue was set at 2.0 pct form 2.02 pct in the previous auction of same issue in August 5. Bids submitted totaled 2.186 billion euros, 2.5 times more than the asked sum. The organization will also accept non-competitive bids up to 30 pct of the asked sum by Thursday, 4 September.
