  • [01] Admin. Reform minister, troika mtg ends; follow-up on Monday

ANA-MPA - A meeting between Administrative Reform Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and representatives of the troika, Greece's lenders, concluded on Friday.

According to sources, the two-hour meeting was held in a good climate, was constructive and registered progress. Both sides will meet again on Monday.

According to ministry sources, Mitsotakis was expected to reintroduce the issue of total number of layoffs for 2013, by requesting that 4,000 employees in defence industries be included in the totals for 2013, if the government proceeds with the entrerprises' restructuring.

Mitsotakis has fulfilled the government's commitment to the troika of the first wave, which included 12,500 civil servants placed on the mobility scheme (involving either transfers or gradual layoffs). The sources said he was also expected to discuss a draft plan for the second 'wave' of the mobility scheme, including an extension of the target deadline, for civil servants at local government, health and insurance and pension fund agencies.

The meeting had been originally scheduled for 12 noon but was moved forward because of the motion for a vote of censure tabled by the main opposition party SYRIZA that is being debated in Parliament.

[02] Vice President Venizelos criticises SYRIZA's censure motion

ANA-MPA - Government Vice President Evangelos Venizelos unleashed strong criticism against main opposition party SYRIZA shortly before the debate on the censure motion against the government started on Friday in Parliament.

The censure motion is a "flagrant act of national irresponsibility which undermines the country's efforts to appear unified in a tough negotiation with the troika," Venizelos told PASOK's parliamentary group, adding that it comes at a time when the country is trying to send a message of optimism and stability, and exit the crisis.

[03] DIMAR to vote 'present' at censure motion vote

ANA-MPA - Democratic Left's (DIMAR) parliamentary group decided on Friday that its MPs will vote "present" at the vote on the censure motion against the government lodged by opposition party SYRIZA.

Debate on the motion opened in Parliament on Friday, while the vote is expected late on Sunday.

[04] Greece-troika negotiations ongoing, IMF spokesman says

ANA-MPA -- Negotiations between the EC/ECB/IMF troika of lenders and Greek authorities are currently underway and no decision over the date of the departure of the IMF's delegation from Athens has been taken, Gerry Rice, a spokesman for the Washington-based International Monetary Fund said on Thursday. Speaking to reporters, Rice said that negotiations are focusing on the 2014 budget, within the framework of the fifth assessment of the Greek program, while he declined to comment on whether there was any concern over the security of the IMF's representative Paul Thomsen. The IMF spokesman said that the Fund's aim was to establish macro-economic and financial stability in Greece and the Eurozone, while referring to Greece he said that the help offer was aimed to help the country recovering to a sustainable growth the soonest possible.
