[01] Greek trade deficit down 20.4 pct in Jan-May
ANA-MPA -- Exports of oil products offered support to the country's trade
balance, with the trade deficit falling by 18.6 pct in May and by 20.4
pct in the first five months of 2013, Hellenic Statistical Authority
said on Friday.
The statistics service, in a report on the country's merchandise trade,
said that the value of import-arrivals totaled 3.826 billion euros in
May, from 4.054 billion in the same month last year, a decline of 5.6
pct (excluding oil products the value of imports fell by 16.8 pct in the
month. The value of export-deliveries totaled 2.406 billion euros in May,
from 2.310 billion euros last year, an increase of 4.2 pct (excluding
oil products the value of exports fell by 10 pct).
The country's trade deficit fell 18.6 pct in May to 1.419 billion euros,
while excluding oil products it fell by 24.4 pct.
In the five-month period from January to May, the value of imports fell
5.9 pct to 19.515 billion euros, or by 7.6 pct excluding oil products. The
value of exports totaled 11.491 billion euros, up 7.9 pct, or down by
1.2 pct excluding oil products. The trade deficit totaled 8.024 billion
euros in the January-May period, down 20.4 pct from last year, or down
14.8 pct excluding oil products.
