  • [01] Greece tables amendments to attract more investments

AMNA -- Greece's development ministry on Friday tabled an amendment to draft legislation – due to be discussed in Parliament - seeking to further facilitate procedures for attracting new investments to the country.

The amendments envisage the reduction from 300,000 to 250,000 euros of the value of a real estate property, needed to be purchased by third-country citizens and family members in order to receive residence permits in Greece, while a similar offer will be given for signing long-term time sharing agreements. Such agreements, with a duration of at least 10 years, would be given a five-year residence permit.

Also, large investment projects, worth more than 50 million euros, could be given a tax break in order that more money could be distributed for small- and medium-sized enterprises, while investment projects, worth less than 50 million euros, could be offered in isolation or as a combination of all state subsidies envisaged under Greek law.

[02] New passenger station inaugurated at Lavrio port

AMNA -- A new station for passenger ships running on new technology was inaugurated at the port of Lavrio, at the southern tip of the Attica mainland, on Friday.

The bioclimatic station also includes two special finger piers to accomodate ferries, and a laser-based system that allows the Port Authority to give directions to mooring ships when high winds prevail. It cost about 3 million euros.

The project was funded by the EU and Greek funds and belongs to a greater project at the port, which serves the islands of Kea, Kythnos, Syros, Aghios Efstrations, Psara, Limnos and Chios, and the city of Kavala in northern Greece. Lavrio port handles five types of sea traffic: coastal, leisure, commercial, cruise and fishing vessels.

Pending projects at the port include the construction of a breakwater for small craft and a parking lot for cars, and the extention of the commercial sector to the south as well as the extension of the windward pier. They are expected to be completed in two years at a cost of slightly over 42 million euros.
