  • [01] PM Samaras: "The government counts on farmers"

AMNA -- Prime Minister Antonis Samaras on Tuesday outlined a series of short-term and long-term measures the government is planning to take to support farmers, which include encouraging rural entrepreneurship, eliminating distortions creating barriers in agricultural products trade and exemption from charges mainly during production.

In addition, the government is currently preparing an arrangement for retirement at the age of 62 years, for farmers who have 40 years of contributions.

"We are implementing the agricultural policy under the constraints of the current crisis. We are concerned that -alongside the sacrifices- we will succeed in leading the way in rural economy growth," said the premier. He stressed that an upgrade of rural entrepreneurship was a central choice for the government aiming at bringing farmers closer to manufacturing, through subsidies.amna

[02] Greek-American Democratic cadre pushes for H. Clinton run in 2016

The latest ripple in ever-growing speculation of a Hillary Clinton run for the White House in 2016 came out of Athens this week, with veteran New Hampshire Democratic political leader Chris Spyrou announcing that he established a campaign committee in the northeast state last week for the recently resigned US secretary of state.

Hillary Clinton, the wife of former US president Bill Clinton and the runner-up to Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination in 2008, has not declared her intentions vis-a-vis the still far-off election in three and a half years, yet press speculation -- fueled by opinion polls in the US -- has been intense since she left the helm of the US State Department. issued in Athens. He also dismissed concerns of a "premature" candidacy ahead of the 2016 race. "It's never too early for the (New Hampshire) primary … the sooner we begin the campaign, the more fruits we'll reap."

"The time has come for the first woman president of the United States, and the ideal person would be Hillary Clinton," Spyrou said in a press release

Spyrou, a long-time Democratic party organiser and fundraiser in the pivotal – for US presidential primaries – state of New Hampshire, said the committee is called "In 2016 Run Hillary Run". -hkt
