[01] Composition of new Samaras gov't announcedAMNA / The composition of the new Greek government was announced in the Parliament on Thursday afternoon. The government will be led by New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras as prime minister, while the other two parties in the coalition will not have members on the Cabinet, but will support the government with a vote of confidence in Parliament.The new government is comprised of 17 ministries in total, with mergers of significant ministries, such as those of education and culture, and of development and infrastructure, as well as the re-instatement of separate ministries devoted to shipping and tourism. 1. Minister of State: Dimitrios Stamatis The new Greek government will be sworn in at 7 p.m. (17.00GMT) on Thursday in the presence of President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias and Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, with the exception of the finance ministry's leadership, according to an official announcement issued late on Thursday afternoon. The first Cabinet meeting will be held an hour later. A meeting between the prime minister and the leaders of the other two parties in his coalition government, PASOK president Evangelos Venizelos and Democratic Left president Fotis Kouvelis, underway since 1 p.m. in order to finalise the composition of the new government and its policy framework, ended shortly after 3:30 p.m. Evangelos Meimarakis was by proposed ND for Parliament president. [02] SYRIZA says new gov't will continue memorandum policyAMNA--Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) spokesman Panos Skourletis said in a statement on Wednesday the new government is being created on the ground of the continuation of memorandum policies, adding that it is a government with similar conservative political characteristics with the main body being the forces responsible for the serving of the most extreme antisocial neoliberal policies that the country has experienced over the past decades.amnaSYRIZA believes that the political correlations in the government "do not convince that it is capable and prepared to struggle for a substantive renegotiatig of the terms of the loan contract," as well as that "it intends to question the sovereign neoliberal policies in Europe claiming a new architecture for it."
