She noted the contradiction of the fact that before the inconclusive May 6 elections a substantial part of the Greek people were against the Memorandum and "displeased with the EU in general" whereas today a large part of the people continued to be against the Memorandum but at the same time 75-80 percent desires Greece to remain in the EU.amna

She charged that after the May elections, PASOK and ND made an anti-Memorandum about-fact but on condition of Greece's continued membership in the EU and the euro, while SYRIZA accepting the same term and "backed down", speaking of amendment of the Memorandum but at the same presenting itself as the chief component of an anti-Memorandum government.amna

Only the KKE, Papariga said, insists that the people must fight for the reversal of the Memorandum and the loan agreement.

AMNA / Greece cannot be lead (led) to repeated elections because some political leaders were unable to understand that times were critical and were unable to agree on forming a government, PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos stressed on Sunday, in reply to reporters' questions during a televised press conference.

He also repeated that no high-ranking PASOK members will be ministers in any government formed after the elections.amna

Venizelos stressed that any new government that will arise after the forthcoming June 17 election must enjoy a strong legitimacy.

PASOK understood, prior to the May 6 election, that the prospect of a single-party government did not exist for any of the political parties and was now campaigning for the people's vote, he said, adding that a debate between the two top parties did lacked substance, in this context, and should include all political leaders.amna

Commenting on the "non-paper" sent by former PM Lucas Papademos and published in the Sunday weekly "Vima", he pointed out that Greece must implement bailout terms for as long as the country generated a budget deficit and needed outside financial assistance, or otherwise it would "run into problems".

[04] Recapitalisation of 4 large Greek banks via EFSF

With the recapitalisation downpayment, the four banks will acquire the necessary funds for their smooth operation, according to a finance ministry announcement.

Specifically, National Bank received 7.43 billion euros; Alpha Bank 1.9 billion, Eurobank 3.97 billion and Piraeus Bank 4.7 billion euros.amna

[06] Authorities intercept 70 non-EU nationals attempted to reach Italy

The migrants were arrested in the Piraeus district of Rendi on Friday night, where they were waiting in a parked truck that was heading for the coast of western Greece, where they would be picked up by a boat heading for Italy.

Police from the Kaminia police station located and arrested the migrants based on information supplied by the Attica Aliens department, which discovered an outfit that was approaching migrants and offering to take them to Italy for a fee ranging from 2,000-3,000 euros.amna

The six suspected members of the migrant-trafficking group eluded arrest and are now being sought.

[07] Athens Stock Exchange opening: Rise

The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 1.45 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 1.39 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 1.36 percent.

Individual sector indices were moving upward, with the biggest gains in Banks, up 3.41 percent; Financial Services, up 3.25 percent and Telecoms, up 2.15 percent.

The heaviest losses were in Technology, down 1.25 percent and Food and Beverages, down 0.89 percent.

Of the stocks traded, 27 were up, 11 were down, and 9 were unchanged.

[08] Loeb victory in Acropolis Rally

Loeb's Finnish team-mate Mikko Hirvonen, also driving a Citroen DS3 WRC, came second and the Ford team came third with another Finnish driver, Jati-Matti Latvala, at the wheel of a Ford Fiesta RS WRC.
