AMNA- Athens celebrated the advent of the New Year, 2012, with an
impressive fireworks display in the city center at midnight Saturday.
The fireworks illuminated the sky over the ancient Parthenon temple atop
the Acropolis Hill, as Athenians thronged to see the spectacle first
hand and share a moment of pleasure and hope that 2012 will bring back
smiles to the country, which is beleaguered by economic crisis and deep
recession compounded by heavy austerity.
