    ANA-Mpa/Admission to all Greek museums and archaeological sites will be free of charge on May 18, the anniversary of International Museum Day. The day will also be celebrated through numerous events and activities, such as exhibitions, seminars, lectures, tours, educational programmes in 46 museums and sites in Greece.

    International Museum Day was established by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977. This year's theme is "Museum and Memory" and highlights the role of museums in preserving mankind's collective and cultural memories.ana-mpa

    The central event celebrating the anniversary in Greece this year will be held at the Museum of Asia Minor Hellenism 'Filio Haidemenou' that is devoted to relics of the Greek refugees that came from Asia Minor during the exchange of populations in the early 1920s.

    [02] ASE: Big rise

    Equity prices were rising at the opening of trade on Wednesday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index up 1.20 percent, standing at 1,363.05 points at 11:15 am, and turnover at 17.792 million euros.

    Individual sector indices were moving upward, with the biggest gains in Financial Services, up 2.96 percent; and Banks, up 1.97 percent.

    The only losses were in Food and Beverages, down 1.12 percent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 1.67 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 1.34 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 1.64 percent.

    Of the stocks traded, 51 were up, 10 were down, and 15 were unchanged.
