    Oslo (ANA-MPA/G. Milionis) -- The Greek debt is manageable without restructuring, prime minister George Papandreou stressed in Oslo on Friday.

    Addressing the Progressive Governance Conference themed "A post-crisis agenda for the centre -left: securing shared prosperity", organised by the think tank Policy Network, Papandreou added that "we have decided to remain and to safeguard the euro".ana-mpa

    Papandreou outlined a series of measures being implemented by the Greek government, such as the opening of so-called closed-shop professions, and changes to taxation and the social security system, and to the results of those steps, including a 5 percent decrease of the deficit annually and increase in exports.

    He further pointed out the positive signs in the tourism sector, while regarding the manageability of the debt he cited a relevant appraisal by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).ana-mpa

    "The Greek drama has become a European drama," the premier said, adding that in the midst of the crisis the European identity, European solidarity and crisis management ability were being put to the test

    [02] 15 injured in clashes in central Athens

    ANA-MPA/A total of 15 people were injured and taken to hospital by ambulances after clashes between ultra-right elements and migrants in the center of Athens.

    Most of the injured people are foreign nationals, while one Greek man was inured when he was attacked at Victoria Square by a group of migrants and anti-establishmentarians because he was wearing a cap with the Greek flag. The man was beaten with sticks, and suffered a concussion.ana-mpa

    A total of 47 people were taken in by police for questioning -- 40 Greeks and 7 foreign nationals -- while another foreign national was arrested for causing bodily harm and damage to property.

    In another incident, groups of far-right elements caused damage to shops run by foreign nationals.

    Two more people were taking in for questioning after violence during a demonstration near Syntagma Square, in which two policemen were injured, after damage was caused to three shops and business offices.

    [03] 'Open Cellars' Wine Festival this weekend

    ANA-MPA/The "Open Cellars" Wine Festival will be held this weekend in Northern Greece, with the wineries of the "Northern Greece Wine Roads" opening their doors to the public from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

    "Open Cellars" is an initiative of the European Network of Wine-producing Cities that has become an annual event in Greece in recent years, with every vineyard participating in the initiative creating a wine-themed event, including musical performances or artistic shows.ana-mpa

    According to the Association of Wine Producers of Northern Greece, more than 7,000 visitors took part in the events last year, and turnout this year is expected to be much higher.

    Of course, a visit to a participating winery includes a guided tour with information on the entire process of making wine, from the vineyard to the end product, taste testing, gifts and many surprises.

    The 33 participating wineries are located in Larissa, Epirus, Western Macedonia, Pella, Imathia, Thessaloniki, Halkidiki, Drama, Xanthi and Kavala, and the list may be found on the website: ( http://www.wineroads.gr/)

    [05] ASE opening: Rise

    Equity prices were rising at the opening of trade on Friday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index up 1.08 percent, standing at 1,369.77 points at 11:30 am, and turnover at 15.615 million euros.

    Individual sector indices were moving upward, with the biggest gains in Banks, up 1.77 percent; and Insurance, up 1.75 percent.

    The biggest losses were in Commerce, down 0.99 percent and Financial Services, down 0.75 percent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 1.21 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 0.03 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 0.94 percent.

    Of the stocks traded, 47 were up, 19 were down, and 15 were unchanged.
