[01] Sharp drop in retail tradeRetail trade turnover, minus automotive fuel, plunged 19.9 percent in December 2010 against the same month of 2009, according to provisional figures released on Tuesday by the independent Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT). Retail trade also posted a 17.0 percent drop in volume in the same period.More specifically, the Turnover Index in Retail Trade, excluding automotive fuel, recorded a fall of 17.0% in December 2010 compared with December 2009. The Volume Index in Retail Trade, excluding automotive fuel, recorded a fall of 19.9% in December 2010 compared with December 2009. According to provisional results, the turnover index in retail trade at current prices, excluding automotive fuel, recorded a fall of 17.0% in December 2010 compared with December 2009. The Index in December 2009 recorded an increase of 0.6% compared with December 2008. The turnover index in retail trade, including automotive fuel, recorded a fall of 13.2% in December 2010 compared with December 2009. The Index in December 2009 recorded an increase of 2.6% compared with December 2008. The volume of retail trade (i.e. turnover in retail trade at constant prices), excluding automotive fuel, decreased by 19.9% in December 2010, compared with December 2009. The Index in December 2009 recorded a decrease of 0.5% compared with December 2008. The retail trade volume index, including automotive fuel, decreased by 19.2% in December 2010 compared with December 2009. More details on the subscriber's page of ANA-MPA | Subscription request form  [02] OTE cost-cutting measures(ANA-MPA) -- Hellenic Telecommunications Organisation (OTE) on Monday announced a package of measures aimed at drastically cutting operating costs and ensuring its viability, two days after reporting losses in the fourth quarter of 2010.The measures, to be implemented in two tranches - the first starting March 1 and the second on May 1- envisage raising work hours for staff, cutting over-time work, abolishing privileges and facilities and cutting 120 employees from mobile unit Cosmoteâs workforce. More details on the subscriber's page of ANA-MPA | Subscription request form  [03] ASE opening: RiseEquity prices were declining at the opening of trade on Tuesday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index up 0.77 percent, standing at 1,588.99 points at 11:30 am, and turnover at 19.865 million euros.Individual sector indices were moving mostly upward, with the biggest gains in Insurance, up 1.60 percent; Public Utilities, up 1.44 percent; and Public Utilities, up 1.34 percent. The biggest losses were in Mass Media, down 1.04 percent; and Travel & Recreation, down 0.85 percent. The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 0.94 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 0.34 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 0.34 percent. Of the stocks traded, 53 were up, 25 were down, and 14 were unchanged.
