  • [01] Annual bicycle tour of Athens on Sunday

(ANA-MPA) -- The annual bicycle tour of Athens will be held under overcast skies on Sunday, with the entire event kicked off at 9 p.m. in the Greek capital's centre. The longest course, eight kilometres long, begins at the all-marble Panathinaiko (Panathenian) stadium, while the shortest course will be for people with special needs, and begins in Syntagma square, (ANA-MPA) outside the Grande Bretagne Hotel. Traffic will be restricted along the bicycle routes, freeing up normally congested Athens to cyclists and pedestrians alike.

Other bicycle races will take place in other sites around the greater Athens region, including the 25th annual course between the Acropolis and Mt. Hymettus, overlooking Athens from the east. (ÁÍÁ-ÌPA photo / P. SAITAS)
