    NEW YORK (ANA-MPA - P. Panagiotou) Prime Minister and Socialist International President George Papandreou arrived here on Friday night in order to chair the SI Council that will take place at the United Nations, starting with a working dinner on Sunday night and ending at 13:00 on Tuesday.

    On the sidelines of the Council meetings, the Greek premier is scheduled to meet a number of foreign heads of state and government belonging to the left-wing camp, as well as UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon on Monday (midnight Greek time). This meeting will also be attended by Greece's Alternate Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas and Greece's permanent representative at the UN, Ambassador Anastasis Mitsialis.

    Papandreou is expected to be interviewed by the U.S. media and also by the Greek-American media at the Greek Press and Communications Office.

    The Greek premier is to chair the third session of the SI Council on Tuesday morning before departing for Athens.

    A crackdown on tax evasion by the financial crimes squad SDOE and upcoming changes to labour law and pensions were the main front-page items in Athens' dailies on Saturday.

    ADESMEFTOS TYPOS: "Shutdown for tax evasion for shops, nightclubs etc".

    APOGEVMATINI: "Express 'inclusions' to the town plan. She took her time but 'Green Tina' [Environment Minister Tina Birbili] has finally understood that the ministry is 'napping' and the unauthorised buildings have been sprouting like mushrooms.

    AVGHI: "Pension system, labour law a fuse to fire developments"

    AVRIANI: "Hundreds of luxury shops, clubs to be shut down. Extensive tax evasion uncovered by SDOE".

    ELEFTHEROS: "Impressive 'somersaults' by Papandreou-Samaras following their scare from the opinion poll results".

    ELEFTHEROS TYPOS: "Sham changes to appease popular rage. [Labour minister] Loverdos preparing new communications stunts". [refers to proposed changes in labour law and pensions].

    ELEFTHEROTYPIA: "A 'wealth' of tax evaders. More than 6,000 reported by the public to SDOE in five months".

    ESTIA: "A return to basic values. The antidote to the current crisis".

    ETHNOS: "Black list in SDOE's agenda. Sweeping inspections in 12 areas of major tax evasion".

    IMERISSIA: "'Greece will not default.' EU-IMF 'troika' rules out restructuring of debt. Revealing conversation with European Central Bank representative Klaus Masuch".

    KATHIMERINI: "Explosive climate in PASOK [ruling party] over labour issues. MPs threaten to vote against the pension reform bill".

    LOGOS: "[Greek President] Karolos Papoulias disagrees but will sign the decree...on labour relations".

    NAFTEMPORIKI: "The hunt against tax evasion toughens".

    NIKI: "Jail and forced closure for tax evaders. Bank accounts of 153 'big-time' doctors to be opened".

    PRESS TIME: "A kickbacks party on the rails of the Greek Railway Organisation (OSE). Nine million euros in the accounts of 6 Greeks 'for 550 useless trains'".

    RIZOSPASTIS: "Child slave market with the spread of apprenticeships to high schools".

    STO KARFI AT THE WEEKEND: "They are bailing out one by one. Congress derailed. Avramopoulos also heading for the exit. Ten MPs preparing to get off the train. [refers to main opposition New Democracy's upcoming party congress]

    VRADYNI: "[ND leader] Antonis Samaras: new contract for growth and social justice. Swingeing attack on the government and a promise of a new start for ND".
