[01] Time for circumspection not jubilationsMain opposition New Democracy (ND) party leader Antonis Samaras on Friday called for the immediate taking of measures to boost the market "so that the recession will not deepen and become permanent," stressing that otherwise new and worse measures to decrease the deficit will be imposed on Greek society shortly. The ND leader noted that "these hours are hours of circumspection and not for jubilations," indicating as "being positive" the decision by the European Central Bank with which "credit suffocation in the Greek market is averted." Samaras expressed serious scepticism over the main part of the agreement, both over its content and the way and the procedure that it can function. He mentioned that in order for Greece to receive any aid, "it is neccesary for it to reach the utmost point, with this point remaining unknown." "To borrow with 6 percent from the markets? To borrow with 8 percent from the markets? For Greece not being able to borrow at all? Meaning that they are requesting from Greece to reach the limits of bankruptcy for them to help it?" he asked. He also mentioned that "even if we entered the aid process under such terms, the agreement necessitates the taking of a final decision from each country of the eurozone with unanimity, something that may mean in practice new measures and consequently it is an extremely painful process." Samaras further said that the participation of the International Monetary Fund in the agreement package "photographs additional unfavourable terms for Greece and constitutes the undermining of European institutions, since it leads to the control of a European economy by an exclusively non-European organisation." The ND leader concluded by saying that "Greece can and must overcome the reef and stand on its own feet, because that is its greatest interest."
