    ZAGREB (ANA-MPA/M. Savva) - Greek Alternate Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas, in the wake of the ceremony for the swearing in of newly-elected Croatian President Ivo Josipovic, met with Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov, Albanian President Bomir Topi, Polish President Lech Kaczynski, Croatian Prime Minister

    Communist Party of Greece (KKE) Secretary General Aleka Papariga said on Thursday that "the government is utilising the positions and the directions of the European Union to take longterm measures that have no relation with the immediate covering of deficits."

    Papariga added that "they are measures that concern labour relations, pensioning, social rights."

    The KKE leader further said that "the government found a big opportunity, as well as the (main opposition) New Democracy party, to take revenge for the achievements that the working people had after the war and the post-junta years."

    The government's intention to set up a fact-finding commission on the economy and opposition reactions, a package of 23 measures proposed by main opposition ND leader Antonis Samaras for exiting the crisis, and additional austerity measures purportedly planned by the government to reduce the state deficit, were the main front-page items in Athens' dailies on Friday.
