The village of Armatoliko (formerly Boukoro), with a population of just 250 people involved mainly in farming and animal breeding, is nestled at an altitude of 840 meters and is the perfect holiday destination for relaxation and spending long hours fishing for trout in the crystal clear waters of the Acheloos River, while nearby Mt. Pahtournesa offers an unforgettable scenic experience for hikers.

The village of Koryfi, which is also called Kaproy by its 125 inhabitants, stands at an altitude of 700 meters just 82 kilometers from Trikala. Here, too, the visitor can spend tranquil hours fishing for trout in the Acheloos River or, for the more adventurous, hunting wild pig.

Further up, at an altitude of 1,100 meters on the eastern slope of Mt. Megali Rachi, on the border of Trikala and Arta prefectures, lies the village of Neraida (also known as Grevenoseli or Chloro), with its 80 inhabitants. Located here is the Kriakoras Cave, which has snow all year round. Legend has it that the Cave served as the entrance to an underground footpath, which was used during the Turkish occupation by locals to cross into Epirus. Visitors here can relax while fishing for wild trout in the Acheloos and Grevenitis Rivers, or enjoy the scenery while trekking on Mt. Kriakoras.

At an altitude of 950 meters, just 13 kilometers from Messochora, is the village of Pahtouri, with a population of 300 people involved mainly in animal breeding. The village boasts a wild animal habitat at Afti, as well as a variety of cultural events and a local soccer tournament.

Just 85 kilometers from Trikala is the village of Myrofyllo at an altitude of 700 meters on the left bank of the Acheloos River on the southern slopes of Mt. Hatzi. The village's old name is Myrokovo, as it appears in 1336 in a glod-stamped letter of the Byzantine emperor Andronikos III Paleologos (1328-1341) as the last village of the Stagi Episcopacy on the borders with Epirus.
