    The Friday edition of Athens' dailies at a glance

    The report by the Weightlifting Federation on the doping scandal in the Greek national weightlifting team, putting the blame on team coach Christos Iakovou, Thursday's off-the-agenda discussion in parliament on the FYROM name issue and prime minister Costas Karamanlis' warning of a second veto if no mutually acceptable solution is reached, Marfin Investment Group (MIG) vice-president Andreas Vgenopoulos' verbal attack on the government and Coalition of the Left, Movements and Ecology (SYN) leader Alexis Tsipras aired on the private Star television channel were the main front-page items in Friday's dailies.

    ADESMEFTOS TYPOS: "EKAS (low-pension benefit) for 300,000 pensioners - The new incomes criteria for IKA (state-run Social Security Foundation) and other (social security) Funds".

    APOGEVMATINI: "Double veto is Greece's response to Skopje's intransigence - Greek prime minister warned in parliament, the Skopje leadership of the consequences of a non-solution".

    AVGHI: "He (Vgenopoulos) received 220 million euros from the purchase and later sale (to Deutsche Telekom) of (a 19 percent package) OTE (Hellenic Telecommunications Organisation) shares and now...wants to come out on top", referring to Vgenopoulos' statements on Star Channel (in which the Vardinoyannis family is a major stockholder), in which he also said MIG intended to file a one million euros slander suit against SYN leader Tsipras over his criticism on the OTE transaction.

    AVRIANI: "Karamanlis warns of new veto against Skopje, this time in the European Union (barring FYROM's accession), as the Americans continue their blackmail and underhanded games".

    CHORA: "Clash of giants on a green (color of Panathinaikos soccer team) backdrop - MIG vs. Vardinoyannis Group", opining that Vgenopoulos' intended lawsuit against Tsipras and Star Channel escalated the 'battle of the giants' for the ownership of Panathinaikos (owned by the Vardinoyannis Group).

    ELEFTHEROS: "Karamanlis uprooting PASOK's (main opposition party and former government) system in sports, after the revelations of doped athletes".

    ELEFTHEROS TYPOS: "To the Tax Bureau, with your case in hand - Tax Bureau offices give opportunity to violators before the imposition of fines, following Council of State decision" that enables businessmen or professionals, after undergoing an audit, to meet with Tax Bureau officials to state objections over book-keeping violations attributed to them.

    ELEFTHEROTYPIA: "PASOK: Issue of moral and political order for Souflias (environment, town planning and public works minister", adding that the main opposition party intends to bring to parliament the matter of a summer home built by the minister that is in violation of building (zoning) regulations.

    ESTIA: "Shameless demagogy on the Skopje issue by opposition parties" during the off-the-agenda parliamentary discussion.

    ETHNOS: " 'Pontius Pilate' report - Doping case: Federation putting all the blame on Iakovou".

    KATHIMERINI: "FYROM president intimates at compromise on the horizon - Crvenkovski: No more missed opportunities".

    LOGOS: "Weightlifting Federation says it knew nothing about the controversial substances, fingers Iakovou".

    NIKI: "End to tolerance - For 4 years, Karamanlis and ministers blamed all the wrongs on the opposition".

    RIZOSPASTIS: "There's a road to victory, with insubordination, disobedience, counter-attack - Large turnout at KKE (Communist Party of Greece) rally in Thessaloniki (on Thursday)".

    TA NEA: "The knives are unsheathed over the OTE (share package) sale, as the negotiations continue..."

    TO VIMA: "The match begins - Vgenopoulos attack on Vardinoyannis - Statements by Mr. MIG against politicians, and lawsuit against Tsipras".
