  • [01] PM arrives in Cyprus for Papadopoulos funeral

    Greek prime minister Costas Karamanlis arrived in Larnaca early Monday morning to attend the funeral of former Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos, who died on Friday in the Cypriot capital.

    Karamanlis, who is accompanied by foreign minister Dora Bakoyannis, made no statements on arrival at Larnaca airport, from where he immediately departed for Nicosia and talks with Cyprus President Demetris Christofias.

    Main opposition PASOK leader George Papandreou arrived earlier in Nicosia for Papadopoulos' funeral. He made no statements on arrival.

    Popular Orthodox Party (LA.OS) president George Karatzaferis and a delegation of the Greek parliament will also be present at the funeral services.

    The ongoing students' mobilizations over the shooting death of a 15-year-old teen by police, the latest opinion polls, and the situation in the economy were the main front-page items in Monday's dailies.
