[01] Inner Cabinet discusses Justice Ministry issuesThe Inner Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis, met on Wednesday to discuss matters falling under the authority of the Justice Ministry,focusing on the ministry's program for reform and decongestion of the country's prisons.Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Justice Minister Sotiris Hatzigakis said the Prime Minister and Inner Cabinet had approved a broad social program regarding the correctional system, the prisons, drug-related issues, and incorporation of the prison hospitals into the National Health System (ESY). He said one of the two related ministry draft laws was currently under discussion, while the second would be soon forthcoming. Hatzigakis added that if those bills were added to the other ministry bills, of a social nature, that have already been passed into law concerning protection of childen from sexual abuse and trafficking and introducing Cohabitation Agreements among heterosexual couples, it was clear that significant progressive steps were being taken in the social sector with respect to the justice system. Caption: ANA-MPA file photo of an Inner Cabinet meeting [02] Foreign national wanted by Interpol arrested in ThessalonikiA 44-year-old Albanian, wanted by Interpol on a Red Notice issued against him after being found guilty of killing two people and injuring another in his country, has been arrested in Thessaloniki. The man was found guilty of multiple counts of manslaughter by an Albanian court but he had managed to flee to Greece, police announced on Wednesday. Proceedings for his extradition to Albania have already been instituted by the prosecutor's office. Red Notices can only be issued by Interpol at the request of member countries and only if they are supported by national arrest warrants.[03] Chinese President visits CreteChinese President Hu Jintao began a visit to Crete on Wednesday, where he visited the Knossos archaeological site and the installations of the Peza union of agricultural cooperatives of Crete, which is widely known for its table wines and olive oil.President Hu, heading a large delegation, was greeted at Knossos by foreign minister Dora Bakoyannis, tourism development minister Aris Spiliotopoulos, and secretary general of the Crete periphery Serafeim Tsokas, who took him on a guided tour of the site. Afterwards, he visited the Peza union exhibition hall, where he was greeted by schoolchildren waving Greek and Chinese flags, who welcomed him in Chinese, and was briefed by union officials on Crete's quality products. President Hu also visited a local olive grove, where he watched, and took part in, the collection of olives from the trees, in a display of Chinea's interest in olive cultivation and olive products. He further asked a local olive picker to inform him on the olive oil production process and in general on olive cultivation in the region, stressing that he knew that Crete produced excelleng olive oil and that new horizons were opening up for the product on the Chinese market. Bakoyannis and Spiliotopoulos, in statements later, noted the significance of the Chinese President's visit to Greece, which the said highlighted the Greek civilization as well as the prospects for promoting Greek products and tourism on the Chinese market. President Hu was also scheduled to attend a luncheon in his honor hosted by Bakoyannis, and visit the Archaeological Museum in Heraklion in the afternoon before returning to Athens.
