    The Flame of Hope will be lit for the VIII International Winter Special Olympics, which will be held in Idaho, in the United States, on February 3-14, 2009, on Wednesday November 12, 2008, at 12:00 at the Peristyle of the Zappeion Mansion in Athens, according to a U.S. Embassy press release on Thursday.

    The ceremony will be addressed, among others, by Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos on behalf of Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis, Culture Minister Mihalis Liapis and Athens Mayor Nikitas Kaklamanis.

    The event will be attended by members of the government, Parliamentarians, ambassadors, Natasha Karamanlis, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Marianna Vardinoyannis, academics, athletes, businessmen and the entire Greek delegation participating in the International Winter Special Olympics.

    [02] Stocks slip 6.78% on Thur.

    Greek stocks suffered heavy losses in the Athens Stock Exchange on Thursday, following a sharp decline in other European markets. The composite index plunged 6.78 pct to end at 2,070.40 points, with turnover a low 207.4 million euros, of which 3.8 million euros were block trades.

    All sectors moved lower, with the Raw Materials (9.12 pct), Financial Services (9.01 pct), Constructions (8.12 pct), Banks (8.10 pct) and Industrial Products (7.53 pct) suffering the heaviest percentage losses of the day.

    The FTSE 20 index plunged 7.34 pct, the FTSE 40 index ended 6.24 pct down and the FTSE 80 index dropped 6.64 pct. Broadly, decliners led advancers by 237 to 20 with another 17 issues unchanged.
