    The Saturday edition of Athens' dailies at a glance

    The Parliamentary debate on the global financial crisis, the abolition of tax on jointly-owned properties, the envisaged 'end of neo-liberalism' were the main front-page items in Saturday's dailies.

    ADESMEFTOS TYPOS: "We are not giving a single euro to banks. Karamanlis gives clarifications in Parliament regarding the package of 28 billion".

    APOGEVMATINI: "No more 'Golden Boys'. Karamanlis slashes provocatively high salaries & bonuses'".

    AVGHI: "End of an era for neo-liberalism. [Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) leader] Alekos Alavanos: reduction in arms spending - programme for 50,000 new jobs.

    AVRIANI: Runs story saying the government should expose local business interests that control the greater share of public procurement contracts, taking the lion's share of money from domestic and European packages through their political connections, that are now shutting down the plants they set up for the purpose.

    CHORA: "They burned three banks. Torching of ATMs now feared".

    ELEFTHERI ORA: "We expected something major for the economy yesterday from the Prime Minister and [main opposition PASOK leader George] Papandreou in Parliament but...nothing doing.

    ELEFTHEROS: "New Democracy MPs play 'hooky' during the debate. Ruling party seats in Parliament were half-empty while the Prime Minister spoke".

    ELEFTHEROS TYPOS: "Full speed reverse over the secret Single Real Estate Property Tariff (ETAK). The finance ministry abolishes the tax for jointly owned properties following reactions. Owners exempted with an official statement from tax offices ".

    ELEFTHEROTYPIA: "An...'inconvenience' tax. ETAK: they are backing down but sending us to wait in line at tax offices".

    ESTIA: "Real estate property fiasco. Monumental stupidity by the finance ministry".

    ETHNOS: "Civil servants' fund bankrupt. Shock revelation for a social insurance system in crisis."

    KARFI at the Weekend: "We two are a package deal. They are planning a comeback. 10 phone calls a day. Secret meetings in Kolonaki, Rafina. Why the 'pilgrim' isn't pressing charges" (Claims that PM and Roussopoulos are meeting regularly and planning the former minister's return to government).

    KATHIMERINI: "Like strangers in the same crisis. Karamanlis and Papandreou cannot agree on how it should be handled".

    LOGOS: "Measures to shield the economy. Karamanlis: 'we are not making citizens pay, we are not giving gifts to banks'.".

    PRESS TIME: "The Tatoi treasures. What was found at the royal palaces".

    NIKI: "Karamanlis' fairy stories. His excuses for not boosting incomes demolished".

    RIZOSPASTIS: "Let's put both neo-liberal and social-democrat management in a museum. No confidence in ND, PASOK.".

    TA NEA: "10 secret obstacles for new loans. Banks choke off the flow. Nearly half of all applications turned down'".

    TO VIMA: "War over the banks. Wrangles in Parliament, behind-the-scenes maneuvres. Political leaders unanimous in condemning neo-liberalism".

    VRADYNI: "Responsible plan to shield the economy. Pledge to take national measures without counting the political cost".
