[01] Madame Tussaud exhibits a hit with public at TIF
Hundreds of visitors at the 72nd Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF)
on Sunday queued up to have their photographs taken with three of most
important political leaders that marked Greece's history in the last
century. Since the trade fair opened its doors to the public on
Saturday, people have flocked to the tourism ministry's pavilion where
the wax figures of Eleftherios Venizelos, Constantine Karamanlis senior
and Andreas Papandreou, on loan from the Madame Tussaud's wax museum in
London, are on display.
According to Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) staff,
photographs with the wax figures and members of the public are being
taken at a rate of approximately one a minute.
The three wax figures, which have left the Madame Tussaud's museum for
the first time at the request of TIF organisers Helexpo, have been put
on display in a specially prepared area that is kept at the required
temperature - not more than 21 degrees Celsius - and guarded with
special security measures.
The public can see and be photographed with the wax figures at close
hand during TIF opening hours, which are from 5pm-11pm on week days and
between 10am-10pm at weekends. The three wax figures were unveiled at
Madame Tussaud's in November 2006, in the presence of current Greek
Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis.
