  • [01] Plan for the combatting of human trafficking

    Greece, through its plan "ILAEIRA" is determined to confront the modern plague of the era, as human trafficking is described, and with the plan, mobilises and coordinates the European Union and each member-state separately. The plan was presented on Thursday at a special event at an Athens coastal hotel by Public Order Minister Vyron Polydoras, in the presence of the European Commission's Vice President responsible for Justice, Freedom and Security, Franco Frattini.

    Also present at the event were Justice Minister Anastasios Papaligouras, Education and Religious Affairs Minister Marietta Yiannakou, Deputy Foreign Minister Yiannis Valynakis and delegations from 21 European countries.

    Polydoras described human trafficking as a "hideous phenomenon which has all the characteristics of organised crime."

    [02] Transport minister on flight and airport security

    Transport and Communications Minister Michalis Liapis inaugurated a conference organised by the Civil Aviation Service on the issue of "Flight and airport security - Top priority" on Thursday and referred to measures taken by his ministry to ensure flight security and the smooth operation of airports. The conference was held in the framework of celebrations marking "International Civil Aviation Day" all over the world.

    Liapis reiterated that the government and the ministry have placed the security of flights and of the country's airports in general as a top and absolute priority and big investments at infrastructure level have taken place for this purpose.

    The minister added that the effort to achieve Greece's better adjustment to international requirements and the overall upgrading of the security level must be continued.
