[01] All measures against bird flu taken, Basiakos reiterates
Greece is well protected against bird flu, Agricultural Development and
Foodstuffs Minister Evangelos Basiakos reiterated once again following
meetings with local authorities in Thessaloniki on Saturday.
He warned against creating further problems for the country's already
ailing poultry breeders.
During his meeting with Secretary General of the Central Macedonian
Region, prefects and other local government officials, Basiakos
stressed that there is excellent cooperation between the ministry and
local authorities and that raising awareness regarding EU measures in
effect since 2004 has already proved beneficial.
"We must reassure the public that the country is well protected, that
measures are already being taken and that we will continue along this
course in the near future in order to prevent the spreading of the
disease from neighbouring Turkey," he said.
