  • [01] One dead, six injured in accident at Santorini archaeological site

One person died and six were injured when a steel roof of the Akrotiri archaeological site on the island of Santorini collapsed on Friday afternoon.

Rescue teams managed to locate and remove the six injured individuals - two Slovenian tourists, two Americans, one German and one Greek - but had been unable to remove the body of the dead victim as of Friday evening.

Three of the six injured victims are in serious condition and have been flown by military aircraft to KAT Hospital in northern Attica.

The identity and nationality of the dead victim remains unknown.

Deputy Culture Minister Petros Tatoulis, who is on his way to Santorini, said that an investigation will be conducted to discover the causes that led to the roof's collapse.
