Greece's President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias will hold sideline meetings with leaders of the Balkan countries in Varna, where he arrived on Thursday to attend the regional forum of "cultural corridors" taking place in the Bulgarian city.

Papoulias is slated to meet with Turkish president Ahmet Sezer, Croatian president Stipe Mesic, Montenegro president Filip Vujanovic, and UNESCO general director Ko?chiro Matsuura on the sidelines of the forum.

The cultural corridors is a system of cultural values which includes, sites, monuments, historical installations, natural resources but also relations, communication and historic roads, which reflect common historic, social, cultural and other characteristics.

The cultural corridors in Southeast Europe aim at showing the region's cultural heritage to the rest of Europe and the world and the meeting in Varna is within the framework of the dialogue of cultures and the strengtheing of regional cooperation, two sectors to which UNESCO gives importance.
