[01] Nimetz proposal for FYROM name 'a base for negotiations', Athens
says
A proposal put forward by United Nations special mediator Matthew
Nimetz that the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia be named
"Republika Makedonija-Skopje" does not fully satisfy Athens' goals and
desires but is a "base for negotiations", Greek Foreign Minister Petros
Molyviatis said on Friday.
"We are ready to come to these negotiations with a positive and
constructive attitude," Molyviatis said.
He expressed hope that the other side will do the same in order to lead
to the full normalisation of bilateral relations, further progress
toward EuroAtlantic institutions for FYROM and the stabilisation of the
region.
If agreed and adopted by the United Nations, the name proposed by
Nimetz will be accompanied by a UN recommendation that it be used by
all countries of the international community and international
organisations.
