[01] Greek tourism board comments on situation in rowdy Faliraki20/08/2003 22:26:18Greece's state-run National Tourism Organization (GNTO) on Wednesday warned that it will take action against any tour operators spoiling Greece's image as a tourism destination or the quality of tourism services in the east Mediterranean country. A relevant GNTO press release came in the wake of a series of raucous incidents involving mostly young British holiday-makers at the Faliraki resort on the Dodecanese island of Rhodes, which culminated in the slaying of a Peterborough, England teen by another British man during a brawl this month. Several arrests related to the same incident as well as a subsequent crack-down by police even led to a handful of tour operators being questioned about the practise of ''bar crawling'' or ''bar hopping''. ''Greece will resist tour operators that sell packages at ridiculously low prices and attract tourists who cause problems without offering any significant benefits,'' the press statement read. The statement was a reply to recent letters from a well-known London-based travel agency's ''Club 18-30'' subsidiary, which apologise for the ''isolated incidents'' at Faliraki and other places on Rhodes, the release said.
