    Equities were falling at the opening of trading Wednesday on the Athens Stock Exchange, with the general share price index down 0.98 percent at 11:15 am at 2,599.74 points and turnover at 5.8 million euros, or 2 billion drachmas.

    Individual sector indices were moving down across the board, with the biggest losses in retail trade, down 2.09 percent, and IT products and solutions, down 1.48 percent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 0.88 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was down 0.95 percent, and the FTSE/ASE SmallCap 80 index was down 0.91 percent.

    Of the stocks moved, 20 were up, 190 were down and 27 were unchanged.

    An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale was recorded at 21:04 p.m. on Tuesday by the Geodynamic Institute at the National Observatory in Athens and by the Geophysics Laboratory at Thessaloniki University.

    The epicentre of the quake was in the Ionian sea, 15 kilometres northwest of the island of Cephallonia.

Sunny in Athens, with temperatures between 8C and 21C. Fair weather in Thessaloniki with temperatures from 5C to 19C.
