FARMERS LATEST

Some of the roads under occupation by Greece's farmers have been freed up, after being blocked off by agricultural vehicles for up to two weeks.

Prime minister Kostas Simitis returned to Athens from Dublin Monday, satisfied with the outcome of the EU summit in Ireland.

RIFKIND

The entry of CYPRUS into the EU appears to be on the right track. After a recent visit to the island, British foreign secretary Malcolm Rifkind said EU talks on Cypriot accession will begin shortly.

Greek orthodox archbishop of America Spyridon celebrated his nameday by saying mass.

War may have been avoided in the Aegean, but Turkish brutality resulted in the deaths of three Greek-Cypriots this year.

Two were murdered by Turkish, and another by a Turkish mob, in the most tragic displays of violence on the island since the Turkish invasion of 1974.

The three Greek weight-lifters and the Greek gymnast who won at the Atlanta Olympics have been named Greece's male athletes of the year.
