ALIKI/FUNERALYou've been watching scenes from the funeral service of Aliki Vouyouklaki. Thanks for joining us.Greece's national star was buried Thursday. Aliki Vouyouklaki died Tuesday following a month-long struggle with a liver ailment. Thousands of people paid their final respects as Aliki was buried at the First Cemetery in Athens. ALIKI/SERVICEThe funeral service was held at Athens cathedral a few miles from the cemetery. After the service came, the orations as a few people put in words what was written in the hearts of all.ALIKI/ILLNESSAliki became aware of her health problems last December. But it was only in April that they took a dramatic turn, forcing her to cancel her performance dates at a theatre in Thessaloniki.It was the beginning of the end for the woman Greece adored. And, as she prepared to face her greatest test, she said what she needed more than anything else, was love. ALIKI/BIOGRAPHYAliki Vouyouklaki reigned over the hearts of Greeks for over 40 years. To generations of cinema and theatre goers, she was the best. She brought the joy of life to all who saw her.ALIKI/LAST INTERVIEWAliki Vouyouklaki's last interview was with Antenna reporter Irini Anastasopoulou just before she returned from Munich in May, where she had gone for medical tests.In that interview, Greece's national star shared her pain, but also her undying courage with the Greek people. TWA/AIRPORTSFollowing the recent air disaster on TWA flight 800, there was some speculation in the international press that security at Athens international airport may be lax. Some suggested that a bomb may have been planted on the ill-fated craft, which flew from Athens to New York before leaving for Paris.The Greek and American governments insist that security at Athens is fine. But what about other airports, in other countries? Antenna's Giorgos Amyras recently visited Heathrow, in London, Charles de Galle, in Paris, and Zurich's international airports. He found security sorely lacking at all three. MEDALGreece has won its first medal at the golden Olympics in Atlanta.Weight-lifter Leonidas Sabanis hoisted a total of 305 kilos in the 59-kilo category, clinching the second spot Sunday. An ethnic greek from southern Albania, Sabanis lifted 137.5 kilos in the jerk, setting a new Greek record.
