[01] Gov't aims at comprehensive solution for 'red' loans, Development Minister saysThe government's primary target is to present a comprehensive settlement framework for "red" business loans, Development and Competitiveness Minister Nikos Dendias said in an interview with Eleftheros Typos on Sunday."The plan for non-performing business loans is part of a broader framework for the restructuring of private debt. We seek a comprehensive solution to the debt problem so that sustainable businesses, not only the large ones but also the small ones, will be able to overcome their problems," Dendias noted. Asked about home loans, Dendias stressed that special measures would be taken so that citizens will not lose their properties. Furthermore, he stated, "a massive wave of home foreclosures does not benefit the banks, as it would lead to further large reductions in the real estate market." The minister underlined that the main concern in the post-memorandum era must be the reduction of taxes on businesses and individuals. Regarding the Real Estate Ownership Uniform Taxation (ENFIA), Dendias expressed his hope that the forthcoming improvements would limit the citizens' discontent, adding that real estate over-taxation harms the economy more than boosts economic activity. [02] Deputy FM Gerontopoulos to pay two-day visit to CyprusDeputy Foreign Minister Kyriakos Gerontopoulos on Monday will be in Cyprus on the occasion of the 25th assembly of Cypriots Abroad.On Monday, Gerontopoulos will meet with the Foreign Minister of Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulides and with Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos. Later, he will visit the military camp in Malounda and afterwards he will deliver a speech at the Cypriots Abroad assembly. On Tuesday, the Greek official will be received by the President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades at the Presidential Mansion and will also meet with Cyprus' parliament president Yannakis Omirou. He will also be briefed by Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister of Cyprus Yiorgos Lakkotrypis on the hydrocarbons issue and by Finance Minister Harris Georgiades on Cyprus' economy. In statements to ANA-MPA, Gerontopoulos underlined the importance of the close relations and cooperation between Greeks and Cypriots Abroad adding that our Cypriots brothers support the efforts of the Greek Foreign Ministry. [03] Tsipras: Cancellation of memorandum and ENFIAMain opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras said that he will abolish the Real Estate Ownership Uniform Taxation [ENFIA] in case his party wins the general elections, in an interview for the Sunday newspaper Realnews.Tsipras presenting his programme for the first 100 days after being elected said that the new parliament will cancel the memorandums and announced immediate measures of social solidarity as the restoration of the minimum wage and pension to the before the memorandum limits "We do not come to manage Greece subordination, we are coming to abolish it" he said. The main opposition leader clarified that he will not support the continuation of the memorandum regime "we will not yield to coercion and terrorist dilemmas and to sign leonine agreements and memorandums of devastation and enslavement of the Greek people in the name of their supposedly salvation. Referring to the Presidential election, Tsipras noted "The people had decided in the euroelections. They condemned the government. Election of 'a freezed President' means continuation and completion of the disaster" he said and called for election in order the new parliament that to harmonise politically and morally with the electorate. He clarified that SYRIZA will not propose someone for President because "cohesion over the name of the President should and must be formed after they people have expressed themselves". Finally, he made an overture to those that have opposed to the memorandum to rally with SYRIZA. [04] Main opposition SYRIZA on ENFIAMain opposition SYRIZA in an announcement on Saturday on the Real Estate Ownership Uniform Taxation (ENFIA) noted that «the 'ENFIA type' seizure of property is another example of the extreme and antisocial governmental policy" adding that the "overtaxation strangles the economy and 'punishes' those who objectively can't pay and reveals the real face of the government's so-called success story.ENFIA's abolition and the implementation of a socially just and efficient taxation system through the creation of an assets declaration are necessary for the country's exit from the crisis and the economic recovery". [05] SYRIZA on EBU's letter regarding NERITThe European Broadcasting Union's (EBU) letter to Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, published on Sunday at Avgi newspaper, regarding the voting of an amendment that gives the government the right to directly appoint NERIT's supervisory board is a "slap in the face", main opposition SYRIZA said.According to SYRIZA announcement, the strict government control over NERIT violates the European laws on the independence of public service broadcasters and exposes the country internationally. SYRIZA also pledged to reopen the state broadcaster with new terms of transparency and independence, and commitment to independent information, culture and dialogue with the society. [06] ND political committee sec' : Reforms should proceed immediatelyThe National Meeting of New Democracy's (ND) youth organisation (ONNED) were concluded on Sunday with ND's political committee secretary Andreas Papamimikos' interview.In his address, Papamikos stressed the need to proceed immediately with the reforms in the country and estimated that Greece is exiting from the crisis. Regarding speculations on ND's overture, he said that the "real overture is the one that is based on new ideas and policies, that will express the most of the Greeks and that will bring again the people of production, the middle class, the professionals and all those who produce back on the stage. He clarified that the aim is the rallying with "those who can serve this horientation and believe ND's vision for the new Greece and those who are not afraid to struggle against the establishment as well as with their own past". He charged main opposition SYRIZA that it seeks the political instability and the social tension. [07] Philologist Kriaras dies at the age of 107Emmanuel Kriaras, lexicographer and philologist, emeritus professor of the School of Philosophy at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, died late Friday in his home in Thessaloniki at the age of 107 of a heart attack.He will be buried, according to his wish, in his homeland Hania, Crete, on Wednesday noon. Kriaras was best-known for his seminal work, the 16-volume "Lexicon of Medieval Greek Demotic Literature 1100-1669," the first volume of which was published in 1968. His "Greek Dictionary of the Modern Demotic Language, Written and Oral" came out in 1995 and has been described as "the most authoritative modern Greek monolingual dictionary." In an interview with ANA-MPA (28/11/2013) on the occasion of his 107th birthday, the internationally renowned scholar remarked, "I am well aware that most - especially some of the newly minted of the media - who come to see me do so not because they know and appreciate my work and my personality. They are mostly impressed by my age. I have never wanted to live so long... It just happened. I do not want to live any longer. My joy (my beloved wife) has gone. Love, which inspired me - love for life and creation - is no longer there. So, thank you for the greetings and gifts, but they are now redundant. And in our era there is no room for redundancies." Kriaras was born in Piraeus when Greece was still on the Julian calendar (November 15); by the Gregorian calendar currently in use, he was born on November 28, 1906. [08] President Papoulias on Kriaras' deathPresident of Republic Karolos Papoulias made the following statement on the occasion of professor Emmanuel Kriaras' death."If the limits of the language are the limits of the world, then Emmanuel Kriaras learned us how to recognise them and expand them" adding that "he was a wonderful teacher and philosopher that leaves us with his invaluable Lexicon along with lessons of thought and life. [11] Council of State compensates relatives of Yakovlev 42 and Express Samina's victimsThe Council of State with two decisions gave the green light to provide compensation to relatives of Yakovlev 42 which crashed into the Pieria mountain on December 19, 1997 and "Express Samina" ferryboat which sank in Paros, Cyclades, in September 2000.Some of the relatives of the victims had sought compensation for mental anguish caused by the death of their relatives from the Greek State. For some of the relatives, Justice ruled definitively and irrevocably, 17 years after the incident, that they are entitled to receive compensation. More specifically, the Board of Appeal of Thessaloniki awarded a 90,873 euro compensation for pain and suffering to the parents and two siblings of one of the passengers of the fatal aircraft. The Council of State also awarded a compensation to a person who had lost her grandfather and grandmother in "Express Samina" shipwreck. [14] Terrorist Maziotis' accomplice among robbers of Distomo National Bank, police sources sayThe three armed robbers who stormed into a branch of National Bank of Greece in Distomo, Viotia on Friday, taking an estimated 300,000 euros and a hostage to aid their escape are known to their authorities, said police sources on Sunday.The same sources claim that evidence lead to the conclusion that one of the robbers is Giorgos Petrakakos aged 35, who is wanted as accomplice of terrorist Nikos Maziotis while the other two robbers are also known to authorities for armed robberies and other serious crimes. The robbery took place at 14:00 on Friday when the three men entered shortly before closing time and held the staff at gunpoint. According to witnesses, they had changed their faces so that they could not be recognised and they escaped in a Toyota RAV4 four-wheel drive car that they later abandoned and set alight at Antikyra. They then boarded an inflatable dinghy that they used to reach Kato Loutra, Xylokastro where they let the hostage go and made their getaway using unknown means. [15] Missing French tourist found deadThe body of a 62 year-old French tourist that was missing from late Friday was found on Sunday at a remote path near the village of Loutro, southern Crete.The French woman had left with her 64 year-old companion from their room to go hiking. According to police, a coroner is currently on his way to the site of the incident while the search to locate the missing man continues.
