The hour-long meeting was held to discuss Greece's diplomatic strategy in light of the new round of talks aimed at resolving the Skopje issue. Foreign ministry sources said Mr. Papoulias would leave for New York where he is scheduled to meet with the UN Secretary General's special representative, Cyrus Vance, on Sunday. Mr. Vance began a round of talks Friday within the framework of UN Security Council Resolution 845. He has already held a first meeting with Skopje's deputy Prime Minister and acting foreign minister, Stevo Cervenkovski. Mr. Vance is also expected to visit Athens and Skopje at the end of the month for talks with the heads of both governments. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Mr. Papaconstantinou declined to comment on Greece's strategy at the talks. Turning to other foreign policy issues, the foreign minister said the CSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities Max van der Stoel was scheduled to arrive in Athens on Monday to brief the government on his recent fact-finding mission to check whether Tirana was respecting the rights of the thousands of ethnic Greeks in Albania.
