Athens, 14/7/1993 (ANA): Prime Minister Constantine Mitsotakis' intervention has been requested by international mediators Lord Owen and Thorvald Stoltenberg in the attempt to restore water and gas supplies to war-torn Sarajevo. Government spokesman Vassilis Manginas announced yesterday that ``within the framework of Greece's contribution to a peaceful resolution of the Yugoslav problem``, international mediators Lord Owen and Mr. Stoltenberg requested the intervention of the Greek Prime Minister on the lifting of obstacles which have so far prevented the restoration of water and gas to the city. Sarajevo has been without water and electricity for several weeks. According to the announcement, Mr. Mitsotakis had separate telephone conversations yesterday with Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic and Bosnian President Alija izetbegovic, who both assured him of their support for the ``po-sitive outcome of this issue, which lies beyond politics``. ANA Athens, 14/6/1993 (ANA): President Constantine Karamanlis yesterday sent French President Francois Mitterrand congratulations on the occasion of France's national holiday today. ``I am convinced that the close and traditional ties of friendship between our two countries and two peoples will be strengthened even more in the future, both at a bilateral level and in the framework of the European Community``, the message said. ANA Athens, 14/7/1993 (ANA): National Defence Minister Ioannis Varvitsiotis will receive NATO's Supreme Allied Commander in Europe, General John M. Shalikashvili, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. ANA Athens, 14/7/1993 (ANA): Chairman of the US National Defence College Lieutenant General Paul Sergeant will pay on official visit to Greece on July 19. During his stay, he will have talks with Chief of National Defence General Staff General Dimitris Skarvelis. He will also visit the National Defence College and the Evelpidon Military Acadermy. ANA Athens, 14/7/1993 (ANA): Egypt's Foreign Minister Amr Moussa was due to arrive here last night on an official visit at the invitation of his Greek counterpart Michalis Papaconstantinou, it was announced yesterday. Mr. Moussa is scheduled to meet today with Mr. Papaconstantinou. A meeting with the participation of delegations from both countries will follow. Mr. Mouswsa will also have separate meetings with National Economy Undersecretary Theodoros Kassimis and Defence Minister Ioannis Varvitsiotis. The Egyptian foreign minister will meet with Prime Minister Constantine Mitsotakis tomorrow, while Friday Mr. Moussa and Mr. Papaconstantinou are expected to sign a protocol of cooperation between the two countries. Following the signing of the protocol, the two ministers will give a joint press conference focusing on the results of the talks. ANA Athens, 14/7/1993 (ANA): Scientists at the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki scored a coup Monday when their predictions of a massive earthquake in Japan came true. The Geophysics Laboratory at the university had predicted the massive earthquake, which registered 7.8 on the Richter scale, whith ``stunning accuracy``, pinpointing both the size and location of the epicentre in the Hokkaido islands. The forecast was published last may in the internationally- acclaimed US scientific magazine, the Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America. According to professor Vassilis Papazahos of the Geophysics laboratory, it is the first international forecast which has been proven right. The lab had previously correctly forecast two earthquakes in Greece with this method. ANA Athens, 14/7/1993 (ANA): Joint efforts by the ministries of defence and foreign affairs to track down Sergeant Stavros Nicoalaou, missing since July 2, have proven fruitless so far. Nicolaou vanished while returning from Greece to Somalia where he was serving with the Greek forces stationed there within the framework of the UN peacekeeping operation. Nikolaou dissappeared after his Olympic Airways 105 flight landed in Nairobi, Kenya, a defence ministry announcement said yesterday.
