L'audit est fondé sur 420.000 statistiques focalisées sur des enjeux les plus importants aujourd'hui tels que le vieillissement de la population, l'immigration, l'habitat et l'environnement. Cette vaste récolte de données sur les conditions de vie dans les villes est un outil majeur dans le cadre de la politique de cohésion et de la stratégie européenne pour l'emploi et la croissance. En particulier, les nouvelles données permettront de mieux cibler les mesures et investissements en fonction des besoins observés. En particulier, les nouvelles données permettront de mieux cibler en fonction des besoins observés.[02] "European citizenship: not just words, but also concrete rights!": European Union launches information campaign in RomaniaUnder the banner "European citizenship is not just words, but also concrete rights", the European Commission announces the launch of a new campaign to inform EU citizens about their rights. The campaign will start in Romania in the form of a roadshow that will visit 40 cities between 23rd September and 4th October 2008. Its aim is to make people aware of their rights as citizens of the European Union, as defined in the Charter of Fundamental rights of the European Union.[03] Mandelson in China to raise trade and investment issuesEU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson will travel to China today for a four- day visit. He will co-chair the 23rd EU-China Joint Economic and Trade Committee with Commerce Minister Chen Deming. He will also discuss the current global economic situation and EU-China trade and investment ties with Vice Premier Wang Qishan and other senior Chinese government officials. Commissioner Mandelson will also travel to Tianjin, where he will deliver a speech on challenges for foreign investment in China and participate in the World Economic Forum.[04] Polyglots start the European Day of Languages' celebrationsTo celebrate the 2008 European Day of Languages the Commission invites journalists to meet its polyglots today. On 26 September further celebrations will be held in Paris, Brussels and Member States. Commissioner Leonard Orban will take part in the conference "États Généraux du Multilinguisme" in Paris. In Brussels there will be a conference on translation and a "Language Festival" in St Josse, home to speakers of many different languages.[05] Industrial new orders up by 1.0% in euro areaIn July 2008 compared with June 2008, the euro area (EA15) industrial new orders index grew by 1.0%. In June the index dropped by 0.5%. In the EU27 new orders increased by 2.3% in July 2008, after remaining stable in June. Excluding ships, railway & aerospace equipment industrial new orders fell by 1.4% in the euro area and by 3.6% in the EU27. In July 2008 compared with July 2007, industrial new orders grew by 1.6% in the euro area and by 2.8% in the EU27. Total industry excluding ships, railway & aerospace equipment dropped by 2.1% in the euro area and by 2.2% in the EU27. These estimates are released by Eurostat.[06] Commission clears acquisition of Cirquent by NTT DataThe European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger Regulation to the acquisition of sole control of Cirquent GmbH of Germany by NTT Data Corporation (NTT Data) of Japan. NTT Data and Cirquent both provide information technology services.
