MIDDAY EXPRESSNews from the Communication Directorate General's midday briefingNouvelles du rendez-vous de midi de la Direction Générale Communicationb03/10/06[01] Member States face levies of €377 million for exceeding milk quotasMember States face paying levies totalling €377 million for exceeding their milk production quotas in the quota year 2005/06 (April–March), according to a provisional calculation by the European Commission, based on Member States' annual declarations. Last year the total levy amounted to €355 million. Nine Member States (Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Austria, Poland, and Portugal) exceeded their delivery quotas. Altogether these account for an overrun of 1,217,000 tonnes, resulting in a levy of €376 million. More than 90% of the levy is accounted for by three Member states – Italy, Poland, and Germany. However, the levy for Poland, which provisionally stands at €91 million, is likely to be substantially reduced through the conversion of unallocated direct sales quota to delivery quota. Il permettra aux administrations européennes et nationales d’échanger des données dans plusieurs domaines de manière fiable et sécurisée.[03] President José Manuel Barroso announces in Darfur an extra €40 million in humanitarian aid (02/10)The European Commission has allocated a further €40 million for life- saving humanitarian assistance to the victims of the Darfur crisis in Sudan. This new humanitarian aid builds on previous Commission decisions for the region.[04] Commission approves planned acquisition of O.Y.L by DaikinThe European Commission has cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition by Japan's Daikin of the Malaysian company O.Y.L.
