  • [01] European works’ share of TV broadcasting time now stable at over 60%, says Commission

Europe's television broadcasters on average devote over 60% of their programming time to European works and over 30% to works by independent European producers, says the European Commission in its seventh progress report on the promotion of European works (2003-2004), issued today. Broadcasters in the new EU Member States show as much European content as those in the EU-15, demonstrating the public popularity of European content and, in some countries, the effectiveness of promotional measures taken in accordance with the EU "Television without Frontiers" Directive.

[02] European Commission outlines proposed Joint Undertaking for the European contribution to the ITER fusion energy project

Today the Commission has published proposals for the creation of a Joint Undertaking to provide the European contribution to the ITER international fusion energy project. The European Joint Undertaking for ITER & the Development of Fusion Energy will work with European industry and research organisations to build around half of the high-technology components that make up the ITER fusion project. It will also support other projects to accelerate the development of fusion as a clean and sustainable energy source for the 21st century. The Joint Undertaking will be based in Barcelona and should be up and running by the first half of 2007.

[03] Commission clears car retailing joint venture between Fogeca and Mapfre

The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger Regulation to the joint venture in Spain between Fogeca Multiauto S.A. A Commission Decision on protection measures to be taken against Bluetongue was backed by Member State veterinary experts in the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health this afternoon. The Decision was drawn up in response to the recent outbreaks of this disease in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany (see IP/06/1113).
