[04] Free movement of workers after enlargement (frequently asked
questions)
Free movement of persons is one of the fundamental freedoms guaranteed by
Community law and includes the right to live and work in another Member
State. It is an essential element of the Internal Market and of European
citizenship. After enlargement on 1 May 2004, there will be transitional
periods limiting the free movement of workers from new Member States, which
have been set out in the Accession Treaty.
[05] EU-ACP : EU launches regional trade negotiations with Eastern and
Southern Africa
The EU and 16 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa have decided to join
forces and promote trade and development by negotiating a region-to-region
Economic and Partnership Agreement (EPA). By opening up trade between both
regions and setting up clear rules for trade, the EPA will contribute to
the economic integration of the region. Tearing down barriers to trade
among themselves is the necessary complement to the almost full access to
the EU market already enjoyed by these.
[06] November 2003 compared to November 2002 : volume of retail trade down
by 1.6% in euro-zone ; EU15 down by 0.1%
In November 2003, compared to November 2002, the volume of retail trade
decreased by 1.6% in the euro-zone and by 0.1% in the EU15, Eurostat
estimates today. Compared to October 2003, the sales index fell by 1.9% in
the euro-zone and by 1.0% in the EU15.
